President Mike’s Club Perspective for 2009-2010; (Presented at the club meeting of 9 June 2010) 12 months ago our declared intent was to work within the following framework;
·Be an effective club ·Whatever we took on to do it properly ·Retain our members ·Continue our focus on youth Club Activity since then: ·We’ve stimulated with a range of meeting venues and an occasional breakfast.
·Weve included families and friends
·Xmas at Gerry and Rose’s was memorable
·Our sausage sizzles continue to build team bonds and generate funds.
·We have contributed significant funds to help eradicate Polio.
·Participated in the Waist Disposal Challenge.
·A fantastic range of guest speakers has been presented by John Jacoby.
·Our bulletin glues us together whether even when we are absent
·Our songbook has been revamped by Gerry and friends
·Rotary Foundation is now understood thanks to Ian Bond
·Cindy has taken Rotary to local schools
·Our new members are given awareness leaflets thanks to Cheryl’s initiatives.
·We have a data projector and sound system organised by Andew
Service aspects:
·Sail into Life has been a success thanks to Bondie and others.
·Ran the Bike Week family ride and breakfast again
· Participated in Rotary Friendship Exchange with the Poms.....Thanks Colin and Di.
·With Vernon’s assistance we have completed the Sabah Water Project
·Youth Exchange........The fabulous Mandurah Week took place
.........Hosted Pauliana and Lewis thanks to pres. Mike
.........Sponsoring an outbound student for 2011
·Again conducted the annual Saus. Sizzle at Findlay Foundation cricket match.
·Kay reconnected us with the Four Way Speech Competition
·Built the Silver Chain Altzheimers garden via Bill and Vernon + friends.
·Participated in Rypen and Ryla thanks to Kay
·Funded Handicamp.
·Sponsored a student in the National Youth Science Forum week
·Purchase 2 Shelter boxes for the Haiti disaster
·Have sent close to 1 tonne of recycled aluminium ring pulls to recycler for $
·Have processed many stamps thanks to Andrew and Cheryl
Fundraising:
At the start of the year Pres. Mike was concerned we were eroding our savings . Since then the club has out done it self in the fund raising arena
·Quiz pulled in $2000 thanks to Ian, Andrew and dedicated committee.
·Golf set a record and we picked up $6000 thanks to Mark and Darrens efforts
·Billy Kart Bash didnt make a profit first time up but may show promise next time
·The Duck Race creamed in a serious $6,500 to our club and will grow!
·We have become Sausage Sizzle experts and have made many thousands.
·Thanks to Frank and others, Dhani’s appeal paid for some urgent operations.
Donations Thanks to Franks knowledge, Ians persistence we obtained a district matching grant and 2 simplified grants which were put to good use
·Sabah Water project (District matching grant)
·Mental Health Forum (simplified grant)
·Pat Thomas House
·Supporting Our Seniors (Simplified Grant)
·North Mandurah Junior team footy jumpers.
·Grant for the projector and sound system thanks to Nugget.
Membership: Club membership has gone from 25 to 31 members under Gerry Gielinghs initiatives.
·We maintain our ranking at 4th to better for % attendance. (Field of 34 clubs )
·Received a Presidential Citation for achieving various goals + increase in members
General: ·Our publicity has been good this year .....Thanks Cindy
·Our Website is taking shape.....thanks to Colin and team
Forum ·A range of questions were taken from members and answered as best could be around the room. Several ideas were taken on board for further consideration.
Importantly, when the meeting finished, not many left the room. To me, thats when the real Rotary starts as members pair off and discuss details.
